about

2. Bio /picture/ links
Idiac (aka Paul Banks) is an electronic musician from Leicester, UK. He wrote his debut album ‘Part Idiot’. during the Covid pandemic, because literally he had nothing else to do. It was released on the Pingdiscs label in 2021 to great acclaim, appearing in several ‘Best Albums of 2021’ charts, drawing comparisons with the likes of Orbital and Future Sound of London, and receiving a nomination for The Neutron Prize (God Is In The TV’s answer to the Mercury Prize).
Since then, he has released several more original tracks and a handful of quirky remixes, on a wide variety of labels including Touched Music, Mighty Force, Xephem and Fourier Transform. He also appeared on God Is In The TV’s first covers album, with his version of the R.E.M. classic ‘Drive’ featuring Sarah Quirke on vocals. He is currently procrastinating to an Olympic level, only pausing occasionally to work on new tracks for his difficult second album. It may be released sometime this century if he ever properly gets his arse in gear.

3. A paragraph explaining why you covered this song
Paul Says: “I originally tried to make a cover of ‘Jumping Someone Else’s Train’, a track I’d loved since hearing it as a teenager in the 90s, but I was unsatisfied with the 80s synthpop version I’d made. My wife - a massive Cure fan - suggested I try something less well-known and played me the track ‘A Man Inside My Mouth’ which I had somehow never heard before. I was immediately drawn in by the combination of odd sounds, bizarre/unsettling imagery in the lyrics and weirdly upbeat production, and so I set about making a fun, bouncy, ‘pop drum & bass’ version. Why not, right? Once again I enlisted the services of Sarah Quirke (previously of the duo ‘Sarah & The Ex’), whose unexpectedly soulful & melodic interpretation of Robert Smith’s lyrics added an extra dimension to the track. As always, the track was polished for release by the audio wizard that is Darryl Elkins (aka Tarsiform).
