> Us Frail Gods are a long-distance writing and recording partnership between Richey Hackett and Stu Johnson, who have known one another for decades, meeting due to a shared interest in Manic Street Preachers but also sharing a love of Grandaddy, Mew, Trail of Dead and many other cult bands. It wasn’t until the pandemic of 2020 that they finally decided to use the available time in lockdown to start making music of their own. Inspirations behind Us Frail Gods include Nine Inch Nails, Talk Talk, David Lynch, Tibetan Method and douglas firs. To date they have released two albums, the most recent of which is Shorelines, released in 2022 and exploring themes of memory and identity through imagery of the sea and the British coastline.

Stu: "We chose All Cats Are Grey after a fairly intense deliberation - I mean, it's no small thing to pick just ONE Cure song! In the end we settled on this one because it's so evocative and enigmatic. The lyrics and music paint a subterranean, waterlogged scene reminiscent of Susanna Clarke's "Piranesi". There is a dreamlike, surreal quality to the track and to Robert's delivery of the lyrics which felt very close to the heart of who we are as a band and the themes we most love to explore. We hope to have done the band justice."

I got to know TS thanks to them supporting The Cure in 2016. Now, six years later, I was in the same place tearing up to the climax of every song in their set. Such a phenomenal sounding and raw live recording. furtherdowncol
