Dark Kards is an Austin,TX band saluting the earliest work of New Order and other classic post-punk bands of the era, and an exciting cross-generational project, featuring Andy Dolan and his three children, Ryan, Adrienne, and Kiersten. Together, the family learned how to play their instruments during the pandemic, and, encouraged by their favorite indie bands Guerilla Toss, Finom (fka Ohmme), and A Deer A Horse, they decided to form their own combo in the summer of 2019. Their first gig happened on Christmas Eve, 2019, while suffering from severe jet lag at Yoko Cafe in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City ,where the group summoned the courage to jump on stage with a drummer they just befriended at the bar, bashing out a New Order song they learned at home.Since then they have played numerous shows around Austin, recorded tributes to artists such as Dinosaur Jr, Gary Numan, and The Cure, and penned several original songs, including the Chills-inspired "Dark Day".

3. A paragraph explaining why you covered this song
In a way, Grinding Halt perfectly encapsulates a teenage-rebellion view of how the world ends-- things coming to a dramatic, final stop, out of nowhere with no chance to prevent or even prepare. And we are a band made up mostly of teenagers. But as we get older (and certainly we see this in the evolution of the Cure's music), we realize that things usually don't end this way-- things continue on, even in the worst case, in a sort of slow, possibly never-ending decline. On one hand, this can "feel" worse than the dramatic cataclysm-- like ripping off the bandage all at once, as opposed to a decline that goes on for what feels like "One Hundred Years". But now we realize that this time gives us an opportunity and a responsibility to change things, to reverse the decline, to make things better where we can. I could also go on about how the "Grinding Halt" scenario affects everyone equally, where the slow-burn is engineered to impact the most vulnerable... that's where helpmusicians comes in. At any rate, we're thrilled to contribute as we believe deeply in a world where musicians are supported and loved.
