Hailing from Abergavenny, Honey B McKenna is a multi-hyphenate producer, songwriter, singer & DJ obsessed with pop & dance music. Her influences might include anything you’ve heard on the radio for the last 28 years, the world music playlists by her most tasteful friends, whatever the NME was promoting between 2005-2011 and the funky disco grooves she spins as a DJ in bars across South Wales and Herefordshire. It all gets blended up and hurled back out into the world as distinctly homemade, wonky electro pop. She has been described as “Howard Jones with a female voice”, “relatable melancholy over modish pop house”, a “dancefloor queen” by GodisintheTV’s own Bill Cummings, and her personal favourite epithet, “folk music on speed”, by an anonymous listener of BBC Introducing H&W when she did a session for them at about 15.
She also DJs at venues in SE Wales & the Welsh-English Marches, and as a DJ her tastes tend to veer more house-ward. She is a co-founder of the Discography Lessons, a Cardiff based disco house label hoping to give back to mental health causes with their releases (10% of label profits go to charity) and events. She has played at venues including The Ivy Cardiff & Granary Square, Chapel 1877, Dogstar Brixton, Left Bank Village, The Moon, Tiny Rebel, and many private events. She is planning to hit the festival circuit in 2023, as well as putting together a live set, and will have more original music out later this year.
